Where did the year go? It’s already time for our 10th Annual Holiday Brasstravaganza, where music, merriment and mayhem collide, where wearing pajamas outside the house is actually encouraged, and where we generally have the time of our lives onstage with some of the most amazing artists St. Louis has to offer. This year, we descend on Off Broadway with three evening shows and two kids’ matinees, December 14-16. Our Saturday night show and both matinees are SOLD OUT, but tickets remain for Friday night and the 7 pm Sunday show. All weekend long, we’ll be joined by our usual holiday co-conspirators, Dave Grelle, Ben Reece, Matt Henry, Matt Brinkmann, Derick Tramel and Bob Bennett. On Friday, our guests include Miss Emily Wallace, Roland Johnson and Al Holliday. On sold-out Saturday, you’ll see Emily Wallace, Big Mike Aguirre, Phil Wright and, making his Brasstravaganza debut, Sean Canan. Wrapping up on Sunday, we feature Miss Anita Jackson, Steve Ewing and Jerry Jost. Typewriter Tim Jordan will continue his offbeat hosting duties, with occasional appearances by the Grinch various elves and that jolly old chimney-slider himself, Santa Claus. If you’re a fan of oysters (and why the hell wouldn’t you be?), make sure to join us for the second annual RFT Shuck Yeah! Festival at Molly’s in Soulard at 11 am on Sunday, November 4th. This party on the patio will bring together those tasty briny bivalves from across the country for a celebration of all-things-oyster and other bites from your favorite local restaurants. Plus enjoy craft cocktails and beer and live music from…well, who else?

If you want to find out more about us and where we’re playing next, this is a great place to start. But you can also keep tabs on us via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you have photos or videos from one of our shows, we hope you’ll share them with us. We love making new friends and getting feedback on our performances, but mostly we just like looking at ourselves. There are a lot of great shows coming up to wrap up the year, and our 10th annual Holiday Brasstravaganza is seemingly right around the corner. We’ll be doing our usual holiday thing at Off Broadway on Friday, December 14th and Saturday, December 15th, with a kids’ matinee on Saturday afternoon. This year, to celebrate our 10th year, we’re adding another kids’ matinee and early evening show on Sunday, December 16th. As 2018 glides to a finish, we hope to see you soon!

We love summer (see what we did there?), because despite humidity that makes the Amazon rainforest say “Daaaamn,” we get to play a lot of outdoor shows and new venues. Take this summer, for example: You can come see us on the occasional Wednesday at 1818 Chophouse in O’Fallon, Illinois, somewhere we’ve never played before. Or you might opt to catch us at Summer Gras, an annual halfway-to-Mardi-Gras event at Old Rock House on June 30. If your Fourth of July plans haven’t fully materialized, grab a blanket and come to the Missouri Botanical Garden for our Whitaker Music Festival performance. Provided you’re not tired of us by then, you could also visit Eckert’s Farm in Belleville and see us on July 6th. Finally, if you have friends in the Chicago area, we’ll be at Club Arcada in St. Charles, IL on July 27 and at Evanston Rocks on July 29, with a trip to play a summer concert series at Lavender Hill Farm in Boyne City, Michigan in-between. Wherever you see us, we appreciate your support and will always keep you apprised of future gigs right here on this very website!

Spring has more or less sprung, and that means time for our annual friend-fest at Jazz At The Bistro. On March 9th and 10th, we took the stage at our fair city’s premier jazz club with special guests galore and a whole bunch of new and new-ish tunes. The very special weekend featured Roland Johnson (Friday only) in his first performance with us outside our holiday brasstravaganza; the lovely and talented Anita Jackson, who graced the stage with us last year; and El Monstero’s Jimmy Griffin, making his debut with us and rocking the Bistro to its core. We were also lucky to have Dave Grelle on keys, Derick Tramel on baritone sax and flute, and the inimitable Matt Henry on percussion. Give it a listen on our MUSIC page or check out the sidebar to the right!

They’re still saying St. Louis has the third largest Mardi Gras celebration, after New Orleans (duh) and Mobile. We can’t vouch for that statistic, but we do know it’s a crazy, funky, cool, raucous time of year. And it’s here! Look for us here and there during the big Mardi Gras party — at the Blues City Deli on Thursday, February 8 at 6 pm, the high-tone Mayor’s Ball at City Hall on Friday, February 9 at 7 pm (with our friends Sean Canan’s Voodoo Players), at Beale on Broadway on Parade Day, Saturday, February 10 at 3:30 pm (with a whole host of local talent) and wrapping things up with our annual Fat Tuesday show at Broadway Oyster Bar (with the Boudin Brothers Band). Grab your feathers, throw on your beads, lace up those dancing shoes and we’ll see you at Mardi Gras!

Holy cow, it’s 2018. The good news is, it’s no longer 2017. That year kinda sucked, if we can be honest with you. So now it’s time to set some new goals, and we don’t mean the gotta-lose-weight-gotta-lay-off-the-booze-gotta-buy-the-wife-flowers-more-often kind of resolutions, although all of those are certainly worth shooting for. We’re talking about loftier goals, like cooler and smarter heads in government, actual equality for all humans, and real help for those less fortunate than ourselves. From a band perspective, those lofty goals might include more shows, more travel and maybe even a new record by summer. Here’s hoping we all strive to attain our goals, and that you, dear friends, enjoy a 2018 full of peace, love and music.

At least our new Christmas record is! We are very excited to announce the arrival of “A Funky Butt Family Christmas,” featuring eight of your holiday favorites performed by some of St. Louis’s premier artists. We are blessed to have an amazing extended musical family, and honored to have them contribute to this record. It features vocal performances by Emily Wallace, Brian Owens, Al Holliday, Roland Johnson, Big Mike Aguirre and Steve Ewing. Other very special guest performers include Dave Grelle, Matt Henry, Derick Tramel, Ben Reece, Matt Brinkmann, Emma Tiemann and Andy Hainz. The CD is available at all upcoming gigs and is coming soon to iTunes and Thomas Crone of St. Louis Magazine was kind enough to write a feature article about the record and our holiday shows. Our Holiday Brasstravaganzas are scheduled for December 15 and 16 at Off Broadway, with a kids’ matinee on the afternoon of the 16th. Tickets are going fast, so grab yours now!
